Seniors WrapAround

A 3. Immigrant and Francophone Seniors’ WrapAround Initiative (Offered again as a Drop-in session on Wednesday evening B2) (English and FRENCH)

Level: Introductory / Intermediate

Immigrant and Francophone Seniors’ WrapAround Initiative is a unique approach to working with isolated seniors to support them as they access services to be able to stay at home longer with dignity and in good health.

The purpose of this session is twofold. First is to share details of this new initiative and how we are using the WrapAround process model to ensure that strong linkages are made across the continuum for all seniors and adults with complex needs one senior and caregiver at a time. We will share how we plan to:

  • Make the system more accessible to immigrant seniors and immigrant adults with complex needs.
  • Work toward making the system more responsive to the realities and needs of immigrant senior and immigrant adults with complex needs.
  • Provide support and caring for caregivers
  • Support individuals at risk of hospitalization or Long Term Care Home Placement

The second component that we will share is from a Community Economic Development perspective. There are many Internationally Trained Professionals, who have the experience and skill sets to become outstanding WrapAround Facilitators. WrapAround Facilitators were recruited from this pool of untapped talent in our community. We will share the strategies we used to:

  • Solicit applications from a wide variety of individuals.
  • The interview process used to assist candidates to prepare more effectively.
  • The evaluation framework that we have developed to assess our organization’s ability to effectively integrate and retain these skilled employees.

This session will be of interest to managers as well as front line workers. Learning outcomes of the sessions include:

  • An innovative way to provide services to immigrants that supports their needs as well as builds capacity within the community to meet their needs more effectively.
  • Look at other ways to successfully recruit, hire, integrate and retain skilled workers.
