Working in Canada Tool

E 9. The Working in Canada Tool and The Community Finder Tool

Level: Introductory / Intermediate

Working in Canada (www.workingincanada.gc.ca) is Human Resources and Skills Development Canada’s contribution to the Going to Canada Immigration Portal initiative. Two of Working in Canada’s initiatives, The Working in Canada Tool and The Community Finder Tool concept will be presented during the workshop. The tools are for immigrant job seekers and front line workers in immigrant serving organizations.

This workshop will contribute to the professional development of front line workers involved in employment counselling. It will start with an on-line demonstration of the award-winning application “Working in Canada Tool”, which aggregates information from several sources (e.g., Settlement.org, CIC & OntarioImmigration.ca) to produce a report specific to one occupation and location. These reports include wage, job opportunities and foreign credential recognition information. Over 45,000 reports are possible. The Community Finder Tool (in-development) will help immigrants find the right place to live and work based on where their occupation is in demand and housing is affordable. Together these tools represent Innovative Web 2.0 technology applied to the immigrant settlement and integration process.

By attending this workshop, participants will be empowered with the knowledge of how these tools can be applied in their day-to-day work.
