Integrative Language Training for Newcomers

Language training is often utilized by newcomers. What are the differences between ESL, LINC, LBS, SLT or ELT? What are their eligibility guidelines and what is your expectation when you refer your clients? Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) is a descriptive scale of communicative proficiency in ESL, expressed as benchmarks or reference points. What is the meaning of a CLB level? How can a language program integrated with settlement services? This workshop is geared for anyone who hopes to learn more about language training especially for new settlement workers.

Frank Chu is the ISAP Community Relations Manager of Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB) – Adult Education Program. TCDSB serves over 15,000 adult learners annually and provides day, evening and weekend language classes in over 45 locations across the Greater Toronto Area. TCDSB started to offer ISAP settlement services in 2008. Frank received his business administration degree from York University - Schulich School of Business and his Master of Social Work degree from University of Michigan. He is also a Certified Human Resource Professional and a Registered Social Worker.
