A4: Productivity 2.0: Using Web 2.0 Tools to Make Your Work Day Easier
Level: Introductory/Intermediate
This workshop will introduce settlement workers to online tools that can increase their ability to easily find, organize and share information, and to collaborate online safely and privately (as necessary) with co-workers and clients. We will find out what tools you already use, and encourage you to share tips with each other.
We will discuss and demonstrate search tools, alerts and rss feeds, online scheduling tools, “cloud” computing (using free and collaborative online applications), social bookmarking, and using public and private forums and social networking communities to ease communications and increase transparency and participation. Then participants will practice using the tools in small groups.
Participants will learn which Web 2.0 tools and methodologies are right for their workplaces and goals, and best practices to ensure productivity and privacy. They will share tips on online tools that save them time and money and discuss the pros and cons of using interactive internet technologies in settlement work and in community organizing.
New to Web 2.0? You can work with others in this session to get started. Digital native? Come ready to share what works for you. Bring your laptops and internet-enabled devices if possible; OCASI will provide laptops as necessary.
